Deep cove

ont the 22 of october we went to camp at deep cove camp and wow what a great camp. First we got on the bus at 8:30 and drove to Manapouri  and then went on the boat to the other side of the Manapouri and seen the top half of the power station. After that a bus took us down to see the other half of the power station. When we got to the camp we unpacked and went for a 20 minute walk and had to answer some questions. The next day we went on the old doubtful track, Helena falls and Stella falls. After we got back we went fishing off the wharf and Mark and I got got about 14 on the first day. Then we went back and lazed around. The next day had a boat cruise around the lake. After we got back we went up hanging valley which was a pretty steep walk. Most of us made it to the top but a few of us didn't. When we got back we lazed around and had our night program which was fear factor. That night all the kids stayed up until 3:30 and did a prank on the Andy. On the last day we packed up started to head home.

Speeches

On monday after morning tea i had to read out my speech. I was pretty nervous .  My speech was on why rugby leauge is better than rugby union. I did my speech on that because i think rugby is getting really boring and rugby leauge is getting more interesting.

Holiday Recount

In the holidays i went to Adams for his birthday party.  First we went to a place in sandy point where we went to paint balling.  I got shot in the first round and go a massive bruise the next round i didn't get shot so that was good. then a couple of rounds later i was the only one left and was trapped in my fort then adams step dad shot me in the arm and he was about three meters away. when we were finished we went back to adams house and had a roast for tea then we stayed up until 4:30 playing x-box. the next day we went home.

Fair trade

Last term we started our fair trade topic and this is like a summery of what we have been learning
 I have found out that fair trade is a organisation that helps slaves that earn next to nothing and
pays them more for what they do and give less to the retailers .  I got a message as a consumer that i need to buy
fair trade products so people around the world are happy and can life a good life.
this topic changed me because now i will think twice before i just go and buy a random chocolate bar or bananas
i will look for the fair trade label and if it not to much more and i will buy that bar of chocolate.

Child slavery

Child slavery is awful.  It should be banned.  Did you know… most kids in the poor countries don’t even go to school because they have to work to feed their family and pay of their parent’s depts.  When they work they only get about 4 dollars a week for working 16 hours, and they roll about 10,000 smokes a day and if they mess up 1 smoke they don’t get p1`aid for that day

Did you know that 250 million kids around the world are child slaves.  Child slaves make 80% of your food.  Nigeria has the highest count of child slaves with over 40,000 slaves working every day.  Nigeria also has the worst conditions to work most kids get really bad diseases and sometimes die just to feed their family.  Child slaves work in big firework factories with about 1,000 kids in each factory.  With kids aged between 5 and 15.  When your having the time of your life watching the pretty colours of the fireworks there are kids out in the factories with burnt hands and arms working day and night to make your life fun.

Craig Kielburger  a 12 year old Canadian boy read a story about a boy who was working in a factory to pay of his parents dept. and he ran away  and he was telling anyone that would listen about his story and later on in his life he was killed by the boss of the factory and that inspired Craig to do something about child slavery.  He made up an organisation called free the children and he is now over 20 and still working to ban child slavery.

You at home can help by only buying products that have a fair trade label on it and if you don’t know what the label looks like you can go on to the fair trade website. If you don’t know what fair trade is it is a organization that helps slaves that are getting paid very little and paying them a fair amount of money.

So next time you are out at the supermarket , sports shop or clothing shop look out for the fair trade logo and don’t just look for a brand name that you have brought before try out fair trade so we can help save the children from slavery.

Buddies

 For the past couple of weeks we have been working on our making taniwhas and ladders which is just like snakes and ladders but some of the numbers are maori. Today we finished them and played them for the first time and when we finished playing we gave them to our buddies.

Albert Einstiens discovered the theory of relativity and the mass energy equivalence, e = mc squared. E = mc squared means energy = mass multiplied by the speed of light squared. This formula led to atomic bombs and nuclear power. With this formula you could power New York City for months from a gallon of water.

Week 8 already this term has been going fast. In class we have been working on fair trade and what it means and why it is better than not fair trade products we have found out that over 10 million products from fair trade are brought everyday.  We have also found out what products are fair trade and a few examples are sports equipment, clothes and bananas. In maths my group has been working on interges and we have been playing games about interges and ms Mynes has given us a few activitys in books and on the computer on digital learning objects and when we finish interges we can go on to the stage 8 books.  In reading we have been doing running records with Ms Mynes and we have also been working on our novel studies.

Treaty of Waitangi

I understand that it was signed by over 500 chiefs in thee north and south island and that the Maoris wanted to be free in their land and they wanted to have guns and other weapon's and the crown wanted the land  and to be able to keep the land and not just be killed when they give the Maoris the guns and weapons.

I don't understand why so many Maori's signed the treaty of Waitangi but only one English person signed it

In class we have been learning about what the Maoris wanted and what the crown wanted and how many people signed it and it was only written in one part Maori and the rest was English

Armistice day essay

                                                   Armistice day

Some people say that armistice day was the saddest day of the war but most say it was the happiest day of their lives.

Armistice day what is it not many people know what it is or what happens on that day. It is the day that the treaty for the end of world war one and it was signed by the united kingdom , united kingdom’s allies and Germany. When they signed the treaty they said that would be the end of all wars but then Germany started the world war two.

1914-1918 was how long world war one went for. I think armistice day is impoertant to new Zealand because we sent over 100,000 men and women to the first world war and 16,700 died and over 40,000 were wounded.

New Zealand celebrates Armistice Day because we had lots of troops in the war and we are part of the queens ruling.

To celebrate Armistice Day we have two minutes silence to remember all the troops in battle that were fighting for our country and the women who were helping with the medic people.

That’s why I think New Zealand should celebrate Armistice Day and what it is for the people who didn’t know. Remember to have the two minutes silence on the 11 of November on the 11 hour of the 11 minute.

Term 3 Reflection

Something I am proud of:
Something I am proud of is my MADE awards photo because I got first in the Winton School and St Thomas's competition.


Something I still need to work on is:

Asking how to do them easier? Then practising them.

On sunday the 16th of september I was apart of a year 7 and 8  rippa rugby tournament and luckily enough  we won all our games and now we are playing in the curtain raiser at rugby park next wednesday against James Hargest.

Last week we had the life education bus and we were talking about drugs and how drugs can effect you more when you are a kid. We discussed the names of the drugs and what they do to you and what classes they are. At the end we watched a song by harold.
